The Godfather 2 for PS3 to buy
Inspired by the film and Mario Puzos Corleone family drama, The Godfather II game goes beyond the films story by setting players in the world of organized crime in 1960s Florida, Cuba and New York.

After being promoted by Michael Corleone to Don of New York, players expand to new cities, as they build up their families through extorting businesses, monopolizing illegal crime rings and defeating new families in an effort to become the most powerful mob family in America. To help players manage their empire, The Godfather II introduces The Dons View an innovative strategy meta-game that allows players to oversee the entire world as they grow the family business. Using the Dons View, players will be able to build, defend and expand their crime rings, while keeping an eye on the movements and plans of the rival families. Players will also learn to master the business of organized crime by building a family of Made Men, hiring crew, handing out orders, and promoting their best men up the ranks.

Reviews

The original Godfather wasn't without critics. Many bemoaned the lack of subtlety, even calling it a misuse of the film. Admittedly, turning the franchise into a GTA clone wasn't the best move. And while Godfather 2 won't find any new fans, there are subtle improvements to the overall experience. The plot focuses on the Cuban revolution, with the protagonist, Dominic the Don taking control of a crime family, under the watchful eye of Michael Corleone. Like the original, key scenes from the films are carbon copied, with Dominic awkwardly crow-barred in. It's a strange fit, but generally works. The biggest change is the Dons Eye view, essentially 3D maps of all cities, where tactical elements are introduced, like building your crime family, and controlling territory. It does mean navigating extra menu screens, but is justified in the depth it provides. The "Black Hand 2.0" control scheme allows the player to grab, knee, kick, and head-butt enemies. Yet the system isn't far removed from the original. In a gun fight, specific body parts can be targeted, and an injured enemy can be brutally executed, varying with each weapon. In addition, every firearm is upgradeable, with Dominic able to purchase licenses to use more skilled weapons. 'Made Men' can be recruited into the family. Each soldier has a specific skill, including safecrackers, arsonists, or bruisers that kick down doors. Statistics can be upgraded, making them brutally efficient when co-ordinating attacks. Rackets are controlled by intimidating the owners, which range from brothels to chop shops. Controlling all rackets in a crime ring provides a bonus, like bullet proof vests or armoured vehicles. Territory can be attacked or defended via the Dons Eye, and providing your crew are sufficiently skilled, can do all the work for you. However, both friendly and enemy AI is poor, experiencing difficulty in path finding and refusing to follow orders. The visuals look dated, and suffer from various glitches and bugs. Disappearing traffic is a typical example. However, this rarely impedes on gameplay. A fun, albeit no frills experience.

thought this game was pretty decent actually despite the poor reviews. It definately gets easier as you go along (by building up your family) which is a strange difficulty curve.

Brilliant game and would recommend to anyone. Plenty of game play and can keep you playing for quite a while.

Greta game thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Ca't wait for the 3rd installment if they are going by the movies which is what they have done up to yet. Would reccomend to anyone.

awesome game, a bit short but the single player was awesome

If you like the Movie The Godfather you'll love this game, short but good game play keep you going for may be 8 hours of game play.
