Story mode was pretty good. Lip sync for english dub is horrible though and this can ruin some of the scenes. The game generally is pretty easy and the story mode is really not very long (took me about 8 hours to finish it). There is also an adventure mode which can be considered free roam but I found to be a bit boring as it lacks proper dialogue and instead just uses text. For free battles there are lots of characters to use which is good.
